October 9, 2024

The inaugural US Open Padel Championships wrapped up with intense finals in both the Men’s and Women’s divisions, bringing a historic moment for the sport in the United States. Hosted at the stunning Padel Haus Dumbo in Brooklyn, this highly anticipated event showcased top-tier talent from around the world, solidifying its place as a premier tournament on the international padel calendar.

The inaugural US Open Padel Championships brought together 170 athletes from 15 countries, marking a turning point for the sport’s growth in the U.S. and beyond. The tournament was not just a showcase of athletic talent but a statement on the sport’s future in America.

“I feel privileged to be part of this padel family on this historic weekend,” said Martin Sweeney, President of the United States Padel Association (USPA). “Padel has an amazing ability to bring people together and bring out the best in us. This tournament is a great addition to the U.S. sporting calendar.”

Held just miles from where the U.S. Tennis journey began over 100 years ago, the event’s location underscores the close relationship between these racquet sports while emphasizing padel’s unique identity.

In a tightly fought Women’s Final, the American pairing of Brittany Dubins and Carla Rodriguez Sanchez claimed victory over USPA-ranked No. 3 Anna Cortiles and No. 6 Luicelena Perez. The duo triumphed in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, showcasing their resilience and teamwork.

“We’re so happy to be the winners of the first-ever US Open Padel Championships,” said Rodriguez Sanchez. “It means a lot to both of us, and we’re excited to have come out on top.”

Dubins added, “It was a great crowd today, and this is such an exciting moment for us both to win the US Open.”

The Men’s Final saw a commanding performance from top seeds Juan Manuel “Guga” Vazquez and Jose Carlos Gaspar Campos, who steamrolled their way to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Nicolas Clerc and Raul Ruiz. This win cemented their place in history as the first-ever US Open Padel Men’s Champions.

“It feels great to win the first-ever US Open,” said Gaspar Campos. “We came here with the objective to win, and it means so much to achieve that today.”

The backdrop for the tournament, Padel Haus Dumbo, delivered an unforgettable experience for both players and fans. Set against the stunning views of the Manhattan skyline and Brooklyn Bridge, the venue’s world-class facilities helped elevate the tournament to new heights.

“We’re thrilled to have played a part in history by hosting the inaugural US Open Padel Championships,” said Santiago Gomez, founder of Padel Haus. “It’s been an honor to host such a prestigious event, and this week has been a huge success. We’re excited for what’s to come in the future.”

The success of the US Open Padel Championships signals a bright future for the sport in the U.S. As padel continues to gain traction across the country, this event serves as a foundation for future tournaments, which are sure to draw even more international talent.

“This collaboration with the PPL is a significant step forward for padel in the USA,” said Sweeney. “We aim to grow the sport from grassroots all the way to the professional stage, and the US Open is just the beginning.”
