The 2024 FIP World Padel Championships kicked off today at the prestigious Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha, bringing together the world’s top teams for a thrilling week of action. Hosted by the Qatar Tennis, Squash, and Badminton Federation (QTSBF) for the second consecutive year, the tournament promises world-class competition, with 32 national teams participating across the men’s and women’s divisions.
Qatar: A Stage Set for Champions
Defending champions Spain and 11-time winners Argentina head into the men’s division as tournament favorites. Argentina, which has dominated the competition since its inception in 1992, will aim to secure its 12th title, starting in Group A alongside Belgium, Italy, and the USA.
Meanwhile, Spain, which has won four previous titles, leads Group B, facing off against Paraguay, Mexico, and UAE. France, which claimed bronze in 2022, will headline Group C, accompanied by hosts Qatar, Chile, and Uruguay. Group D has been labeled the “group of death,” featuring powerhouse teams from Portugal, Brazil, the Netherlands, and Sweden.
Women’s Division Heats Up
Spain enters the women’s tournament as reigning champions and European titleholders, topping Group A alongside Germany, Brazil, and Chile. Argentina, eager to bounce back from their runner-up finish in Dubai in 2022, leads Group B, joined by Portugal, the United States, and Egypt. Group C will see Italy clash with Sweden, Uruguay, and Japan, while Group D comprises four European powerhouses: Belgium, France, the Netherlands, and Denmark.
High Hopes for Qatar
With the rapid growth of padel in Qatar, the host nation is eager to make its mark on home soil. Group C contenders Qatar are ready to showcase their talent, with a squad that mixes seasoned players and rising stars. Coached by Pablo Nicolas Sisti and Martin Luciano Bogarin, the team features notable players such as Abdulla Alhijji, Amr Hassan, and Jabor Al Mutawa, alongside seasoned broadcaster and athlete Mohammed Saadon Al Kuwari.
Qatar kicks off its group stage campaign today against Chile, followed by tough clashes against France tomorrow and Uruguay on October 30.
FIP President Optimistic About the Tournament

International Padel Federation President Luigi Carraro expressed his enthusiasm for the tournament at yesterday’s draw ceremony at Qatar’s “Home of Tennis.”
“We are in for a fantastic tournament with 32 teams that will keep us thrilled,” Carraro said. “It’s true that Spain and Argentina are still the favorites, but over the last two years, the other national teams have grown tremendously, and now they’re all at an amazing level. This will be an incredible edition.”
Knockout Stage and Beyond
The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals, while those finishing third and fourth will compete for rankings between 9th and 16th place. With so many talented players on display, the road to the final promises to be filled with high-stakes matches and dramatic moments.
