San Antonio is about to get its first dedicated padel entertainment complex, as Slice Padel gears up to open in Summer 2025 in the Sonterra community. Located at 920 Loop 1604 W, this state-of-the-art venue will not only bring the fastest-growing racket sport in the world to the city but also create a social hub for players to gather, relax, and celebrate the game.
Founded by brothers Juan Carlos “J.C.” Merlo and Armando Merlo, Slice Padel is set to redefine the city’s sports and entertainment scene. “Padel is the fastest growing racket sport in the world,” explains J.C. Merlo. “It’s huge worldwide, exploding in Europe, Mexico, and Latin America.” Despite padel’s surging global popularity, the sport remains relatively under the radar in the U.S., where pickleball has taken center stage. Slice aims to change that by bringing a premium padel experience to San Antonio’s sports and nightlife community.
Beyond the Court: A Social and Entertainment Hub
Unlike traditional sports facilities, Slice Padel is designed for more than just play. The club will feature a full-service bar, complete with lockers for rare bottles, allowing guests to store their favorite spirits for future visits. The entertainment experience will also include a stage for live music, charitable events, and a carefully curated food experience. While Slice is in talks to bring in two to three food trucks for a rotating residency, players will also be able to order from nearby restaurants and have their meals delivered courtside by Slice staff.
Though early plans for a membership model were initially advertised on their website, the Merlo brothers have pivoted to a pay-to-play court reservation system, making the experience accessible to all. The complex will remain open to all ages, but with plans to extend operating hours on weekends, Slice will offer a lively setting for adults looking for a fun night out, whether it’s a post-match drink, a date night, or an exciting group outing.
San Antonio’s New Home for Padel
As San Antonio’s first full-fledged padel entertainment venue, Slice Padel aims to introduce more players to the sport, elevate the local padel community, and offer a fresh alternative to the city’s existing recreational options.
