Sergio Ortiz unleashes Houston Volts: PPL’s latest power move

November 18, 2023

The Houston Volts are now officially charged up and ready to bring the heat to the PPL. With Juani Mieres taking the reins as the Sports Advisor and Diego Pezzoni as the Head Coach, this team means business. Mieres, a former World Padel Tour (WPT) No. 1, and Pezzoni, the USA Junior Padel Team Head Coach, are set to turn the Volts into a powerhouse.

“We are honored to have former USPA President, Sergio Ortiz, be the owner of the new Houston franchise,” said Marcos del Pilar, PPL Commissioner. “Ortiz is contributing to growing padel in Houston by opening a world-class facility next year that will be home to the Houston Volts. We are excited for his team to compete in our 2024 season.”

But wait, there’s more! The Volts have not only snagged some top-notch talent for their coaching staff, but they’ve also signed a killer lineup of players. Brace yourselves, Padel enthusiasts, because the Houston Volts are unleashing a squad of young guns ready to make waves in the PPL.

Players like 18-year-old Claudia Jensen, a Junior World Champion, 20-year-old Lorena Rufo, a Paris Major Premier Padel quarterfinalist, and Pablo García, a three-time champion in various divisions, are just a taste of what the Volts have in store. With a mix of experience and raw talent, the Houston Volts are gearing up to be the next big thing.

Sponsored by the major Spanish apparel brand JOMA, the Volts have not only got the skills but the style too. The team carefully chose their name to reflect the vibrant energy and diversity of Houston, the fourth-largest city in the U.S. From NASA’s Johnson Space Center to professional sports teams like the Astros, Dynamo, and Rockets, Houston is a city fueled by energy – just like the Volts.

“Joining the PPL as Houston’s franchise owner made a lot of sense to my partners and me since we are developing PELOTA Padel Club, a new, prestigious padel venue in Houston,” commented Sergio Ortiz, Owner of the Houston Volts. “I firmly believe the future of the sport belongs to the youth in the world, and it is from the youth that padel will enlighten our everyday lives!”

To kick things off with a bang, the Houston Volts are making their debut at the PPL’s inaugural All-Star Game in San Diego on November 18th. Pablo Garcia and the squad will face off against Padel heavyweights in an exhibition match that’s bound to have spectators on the edge of their seats.

The PPL is on a mission to make Padel the next big thing in North America, and with the Houston Volts entering the arena, they’re well on their way. It’s not just a league; it’s a movement, and the Volts are ready to electrify the Padel world. Get your tickets, folks, because this is one show you don’t want to miss!
