A Landmark Partnership to Drive Padel Growth in the USA
The Pro Padel League (PPL), North America’s premier professional padel league, has officially signed as the title sponsor for the first-ever US Open Padel Championships. The highly anticipated tournament will take place from October 4th to 6th at Padel Haus in Brooklyn’s iconic Dumbo neighborhood.
Organized by the US Padel Association (USPA), the US Open Padel Championships is the final Major of the 2024 Nox USPA Circuit. Players will compete for a prize pool of $15,000, split equally between the men’s and women’s divisions—highlighting the tournament’s commitment to equity in sport. The competition will bring together some of the world’s top padel talent, setting the stage for thrilling matches at Padel Haus’s flagship facility.
A Milestone Event for Padel in the USA
The event signifies a monumental moment for padel in the United States, as it follows in the footsteps of major American sporting traditions like the US Open Tennis Championships (founded in 1881) and the US Open Golf Championships (founded in 1895). The US Open Padel Championships aim to carve a similar path in establishing padel as a major sport in the country.
The tournament will also serve as a precursor to the Pro Padel League (PPL) Finals, scheduled for November 20th in New York City. These finals will bring the top-ranked international professional padel players to the U.S. for the first time, adding to the growing momentum of the sport.
Partnership to Fuel Padel’s Growth Nationwide
Beyond the tournament itself, the collaboration between PPL and USPA is designed to propel padel’s growth in the United States at all levels, from grassroots to professional competition. This strategic partnership will play a key role in developing the sport’s infrastructure across the country, aligning with the growing demand seen with 25 new padel clubs opening in the first half of 2024 alone.
“This collaboration with the PPL is a significant step forward for padel in the USA. Together, we aim to grow the sport from the grassroots level up to the professional stage. The US Open Padel Championships will be an incredible event to showcase the game, and we’re thrilled to be working with PPL and Padel Haus to make it happen,” said Martin Sweeney, President of the US Padel Association.
The PPL is committed to enhancing the professional scene for American padel players while engaging new fans and players at the community level. This partnership is expected to lay the foundation for the development of top-tier American padel players in the coming years.
A Premier Venue for a Premier Event
Padel Haus, a renowned name in New York’s padel community, will serve as the host venue for the US Open Padel Championships. The venue’s state-of-the-art facilities, combined with the growing interest in the sport, make it the perfect location for this landmark event.
“Hosting the first-ever US Open Padel Championships at Padel Haus is an incredible milestone for us. With the growth we’ve seen, we’re excited about the future and are confident that this is just the beginning of a long-term relationship with the US Open. We look forward to continuing this tradition in the years to come,” said Santiago Gomez, Founder and CEO of Padel Haus.
Forward Into the Future
The Pro Padel League and USPA partnership represents a new era for padel in the U.S., with plans for expanded initiatives and tournaments in the coming months. The future of padel in America looks bright, with a clear vision to build a vibrant professional circuit and a strong foundation of grassroots development.
“Having the US Open Padel Championships in New York, with the support of the PPL, is a fantastic moment for the padel community here. We are excited to welcome the world to Padel Haus and show just how far the sport has come in the USA. This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see where this partnership will take padel in the USA,” added Michael Dorfman, Founder of the NY Atlantics, the New York-based PPL team.
With the launch of the US Open Padel Championships, America’s padel community is poised to make its mark on the global stage, starting with an event that will cement its place in the historic tradition of Open Championships in the United States.
