The burgeoning padel scene in Australia has just received a significant boost with the grand opening of the Canberra Racquet Club in Fyshwick. This impressive 4,000m2 facility isn’t just another sports center; it’s a dedicated hub for racquet sports enthusiasts, featuring a remarkable six padel courts alongside four pickleball courts.

As reported by HerCanberra, the Canberra Racquet Club aims to redefine recreational sports in the Australian Capital Territory. The state-of-the-art padel courts are surrounded by panoramic glass, promising both a premium playing experience and excellent viewing for spectators. Notably, the club boasts some of the first pink padel courts in Australia, adding a unique and vibrant touch to the facility.

According to Club Manager Sonja Balic, the appeal of padel lies in its accessibility. With smaller court dimensions and a focus on simplified ball control, it’s a sport that welcomes players of all skill levels, emphasizing social interaction and fun. “Padel and pickleball are providing another avenue for individuals to enjoy and fall in love with racquet sports – there’s less court to cover, and more opportunities to socialise and have fun,” she explained.

Beyond the courts, the Canberra Racquet Club is designed as a comprehensive social space. A fully stocked bar is set to open in May, and the members’ lounge, designed by Sally Hieatt of The Malbon, promises a luxurious environment for relaxation before and after matches, complete with Red Brick Coffee.

The club’s ethos is centered around “fun, community and play,” encouraging everyone to get active and connect with others through racquet sports. To facilitate this, the Canberra Racquet Club utilizes the Playtomic app for court bookings and fosters a strong community through WhatsApp groups, making it easy for players to find partners and join games.

Enthusiasts eager to try padel can take advantage of 30-minute weekday taster sessions during the soft launch period leading up to Sunday, May 4th. Additionally, the club is offering 50 percent off padel and pickleball court hire during this initial phase. Racquet Club merchandise, including padel rackets, will also be available for purchase. Adding a competitive edge, the player with the most games during May will win a year of free court hire.

The Canberra Racquet Club represents a significant step forward for padel in Australia, providing a dedicated, high-quality facility that is sure to attract new players and further cultivate the growing padel community. With its focus on accessibility, community, and top-notch amenities, it’s poised to become a premier destination for padel lovers in the region.
