November 18, 2024 marks a historic day for the Washington, D.C., metro region as Padel Up, the area’s first-ever padel club, officially opens its doors. Developed by local entrepreneur Sabah Alsabah, the 17,000-square-foot indoor facility is set to ignite the region’s love for padel, a sport that blends the best of tennis and squash.
Inspired by his travels through Europe and the Middle East, Alsabah discovered padel and became instantly captivated by its dynamic play and social appeal. “I am beyond excited to bring the world’s fastest-growing sport to my beloved Northern Virginia,” said Alsabah. “Being the first padel club in the area I’ve called home my entire life brings me great joy. I look forward to sharing this incredible sport with all our enthusiasts — both newcomers and seasoned players.”
A World-Class Padel Experience
Padel Up boasts four premium courts imported from Italy, ensuring a world-class playing surface. Complementing the playing experience, the club features a lounge area with a smoothie and coffee bar and a pro shop stocked with the latest padel gear.
For those looking to refine their skills or learn the sport, Padel Up offers lessons and clinics conducted by a certified coaching staff, catering to players of all levels — beginner, intermediate, and advanced. To enhance gameplay, the club has installed SaveMyPlay video technology, allowing players to relive matches and analyze their best highlights.
Accessibility and Membership
Located at 44810 Old Ox Road in Sterling, Padel Up welcomes both members and non-members. Court reservations can be made online by the hour, with memberships starting at $99 per month. During the club’s soft opening phase, weekday hours run from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., while weekend hours span from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Alsabah’s venture represents a significant step forward in introducing padel to the Northern Virginia area. While the sport has seen rapid growth in major U.S. cities like New York, Miami, and Los Angeles, its debut in the D.C. metro region promises to build a strong local community around this exciting and accessible racket sport.
