Padel Takes Center Stage at Mall of Africa with Exciting New Expansion

April 22, 2024

This isn’t just about playing padel; it’s about creating a community. The first Balwin Padel Club will grace the venue, complete with locker and shower facilities to enhance the player experience. As Balwin Padel expands its footprint beyond its Lifestyle Centres, the excitement builds. “This is the first time that we’ve expanded the Balwin Padel brand outside of our Lifestyle Centres, and we’re excited to capture some of Mall of Africa’s millions of loyal shoppers each month while adding to the huge shopping and entertainment diversity the mall already offers,” said Steve Brookes, CEO of Balwin.

The inaugural event promises to be a grand affair with a tournament featuring R200,000 in prize money. This event is part of a broader strategy to meet the growing demand for padel, as evidenced by over 100,000 South African players engaging through Playtomic. With South Africa’s current 400 padel courts expected to surge to about 2,500, Sebastian Brinkmann, Chief of Padel at Balwin, sees a bright future for the sport in the region.

Mall of Africa, renowned as the busiest mall in South Africa, is the perfect venue for this innovative venture. The new courts are designed not only to attract the mall’s extensive foot traffic but also to enrich the already vibrant shopping and entertainment options available. This initiative, backed by a consortium of private investors, marks a significant milestone in promoting Padel, a dynamic blend of tennis, squash, and badminton, as the fastest-growing sport globally.

Prepare to experience the thrill of padel in a whole new setting this September at Mall of Africa, where sport meets lifestyle in spectacular fashion.
