Draft Results Finalized for the 2025 Hexagon Cup

November 7, 2024

Excitement is building as the Hexagon Cup edges closer to its second edition. Yesterday, Mad4Padel hosted the highly anticipated draft event, finalizing the rosters for the eight teams that will compete in Madrid from 29 January to 2 February 2025. For the first time, the tournament will feature a dedicated Next Gen Women’s category, showcasing future stars in the under-22 and under-18 brackets.

The eight teams, each now complete with pairs across male, female, and Next Gen female categories, are geared up for what promises to be a thrilling competition. The reigning champions, Team AD/Vantage, are back and ready to defend their title, while seven other powerhouse teams are vying to claim the crown in this unique team-based format.

In addition to the franchise players retained from the inaugural edition, each team’s lineup was rounded out based on draft selections, with Hexagon Team allowing fans to vote on player pairings. The draft order was determined by each team’s FIP ranking points, with the lowest-ranked teams picking first.

Strengthened Support for Women’s Padel

This year’s tournament marks a significant stride forward for women’s padel, with the new Next Gen Female category designed to spotlight emerging talent under 22. The inclusion of this category underlines the Hexagon Cup’s commitment to promoting gender balance and nurturing young female athletes in the sport.

Tribute to Communities Impacted by DANA

Hexagon Cup founder Enrique Buenaventura opened the draft event with words of support for communities affected by the recent severe weather (DANA) in Spain, especially in Valencia. “Our first words cannot be dedicated to anything but the victims and families of those affected by the DANA,” he said, adding, “We send all our support and respect.”

Buenaventura also expressed his excitement about the upcoming tournament. “The first edition was a complete success, and we are eager for the 29th of January to arrive. All the teams are very strong, and we are going to experience a true spectacle. We will see if the AD/Vantage team can repeat the title. They are the team to beat.”

The Teams Are Complete

The finalized teams are stacked with talent, with pairs assembled to ensure fierce competition. According to Sergio Lewin, the tournament’s Operations and Sporting Managing Director, “The pairs are very evenly matched. The level is extremely high. We are very proud to have the best players in the world competing in a team format, and it should make for a great spectacle.”
